An introduction to London North East Foundation Community Foundation
The London North East Foundation Community Foundation joined London Funders as a new member last month. We are delighted to tell you a little about their work.
The Foundation was set up in 1992 to help to tackle disadvantage in five boroughs: Barking and Dagenham, Havering, Newham, Redbridge and Waltham Forest. In 2004-5 the Foundation gave over £500,000 in grants to over 130 local groups working with children, young people, the elderly and those with disabilities.
The Foundation’s strength is its knowledge of grassroots issues and local groups so it can get grants quickly to where they are most needed. Grants panellists are selected for the skills and mix to be representative of the local community. The foundation places a particular emphasis on young people and In the last four years has made grants to around 300 groups working with children and young people.
Our contact is the Foundation’s Director Jessica Wanamaker. We are sure you will all join us in welcoming Jessica and her team on board.
