Working Money Harder - A meeting for London's funders and investors
Friday 28 March 9.30am - 2pm
Diana, Princess of Wales Memorial Fund, SE1

We will hear from funders about helping groups transform ideas into reality, thinking afresh about financial support, maximising the use of assets and forming new partnerships with different funders and different sectors. Three perspectives will provide brief and punchy examples to show how creative thinking about resourcing projects and services can open up new ways of working, new combinations of funding, allow bigger thinking, different thinking and new types of collaboration, engagement and leverage. We will look at a big voluntary sector project from the viewpoint of its manager; and we will drill down to ward level to look at the piloting of involvement of local people in decision-making on grants allocation.

There will also be two policy commentators, one sharing government thinking about approaches to sector funding and a final contributor giving us challenging reflections on what he has heard, and his own experience of sector funding. We will provide opportunities throughout the morning for participants to share their own examples of how innovation and collaboration have transformed projects. The meeting will close with a networking lunch.

Open to Members and Associates of London Funders

Young people at risk
Save the date - London Funders May Members meeting and AGM
Tuesday 20 May 9.30 am – 2 pm
Greater London Authority, City Hall, SE1 2AA

In the midst of public panic about guns, knives and gangs and sector concern at changing funding patterns, shifting attitudes to traditional youth provision, and a breakdown in inter-generational relationships, where is the constructive thinking and effective practice in supporting and engaging young people in London? How are mainstream services adapting to new needs? These and many other questions will be explored and a series of workshops will introduce innovative projects and services for discussion.

Further details and booking information will be available shortly

Supported volunteering
A briefing for London Funders by Greater London Volunteering
Wed 16 April 2008 9.00am - 11am.
London Funders, WC1

Supported Volunteering London is a project to encourage the development and sustainability of programmes to engage under-represented volunteers and to increase the number of opportunities for these volunteers. They are concentrating on how to involve and support volunteers experiencing homelessness, or with physical or learning disabilities, mental health issues, sensory impairment or drug or alcohol dependency.

This breakfast briefing will give London Funders members, associates and friends an opportunity to hear results of research by Greater London Volunteering on how to develop this volunteering and whether it is enabling more people to have good experience as volunteers. What is the impact on individuals and on the organisations in which they are working? The research will be shared with our membership in advance of the meeting. On the day, findings will be drawn out by a panel composed of the researchers and practitioners involved in this approach.
