 Vodafone calls for collaboration

The Vodafone UK Foundation is encouraging its fellow grantmakers to support charities that work in partnership with one another, following its own experience of successful collaboration between the youth charities it funds. A recently published case study, available on the Guardian website, highlighted a successful partnership between Shelter, YouthNet and the Samaritans on the Foundation’s £5 million Reach programme which targeted socially excluded young people and ran from 2004-7.

Since the close of this project the Foundation has decided only to accept future funding bids from collaborative projects. Sarah Shillito the Foundation’s director comments that ‘communicating with vulnerable young people is an issue too complicated for any one service provider’ and that ‘collaboration is necessary’.
